What the AutoBrain OBD2 adapter will do
If you've read our OBD2 Companion page, you know we're building our own OBD2 adapter. This post is the plain-language version of what it will actually do once you plug it into your car.
The short version
The adapter slots into the OBD2 port under your dash — the same port your mechanic plugs into — and turns every drive into data without you touching anything. Plug it in once, pair it over Bluetooth, and forget about it.
What it will do
1. Log every trip automatically.
Trips start recording the moment the engine starts. Phone off, phone dead, phone at home — doesn't matter. The drive still lands in your log book.
2. Record your route with on-board GPS.
Every drive shows up as a route on the map in your log book. No phone GPS drain, no app left running.
3. Sleep when your car sleeps.
The adapter detects when the car is off and goes to sleep itself, so it never flattens your battery sitting in the garage.
4. Capture fault codes the moment they appear.
Check-engine light comes on? The code is captured and explained by AutoBrain's AI diagnostics in plain English — before you've even had a chance to worry about it.
5. Keep your odometer in sync.
No more typing in numbers. The odometer updates itself from the car.
6. Read your VIN automatically.
Add a car to AutoBrain, plug the adapter in, and the VIN fills itself in straight from the vehicle.
How you'll use it
- Plug it into the OBD2 port (most cars since 1996).
- Pair it in the AutoBrain app — one tap.
- Drive like you always do.
That's the whole setup. The adapter handles the rest in the background, and AutoBrain turns codes, trips and trends into maintenance advice you can act on.
