AutoBrain is coming to Home Assistant
Your car already lives in your phone — but it deserves better than a standalone app. AutoBrain is joining Home Assistant, bringing service reminders, fuel analytics, and running costs onto the same dashboard as your lights, your locks, and your laundry. Here's what's coming, why it matters, and when you can try it.
Why Home Assistant?
Home Assistant is the brain of the self-hosted smart home. It's local-first, privacy-respecting, and already running the dashboards and automations that a huge chunk of the AutoBrain community uses every day. We kept hearing the same thing: "I love what AutoBrain tells me about my car — but I want it next to the rest of my home, triggering the same automations."
The integration works by pushing AutoBrain's processed analytics into Home Assistant as native entities — no raw telemetry, no cloud dependency, nothing leaving your network unless you want it to.
What you'll get
We're shipping in two phases. Phase 1 (Q4 2026) delivers the features that make the biggest difference:
- Service reminder sensors — countdown entities per vehicle showing kilometres and days until the next service. Drop them into a Lovelace card or an HA
todolist. - Fuel economy trends — rolling L/100km averages sitting next to your solar production on the same dashboard.
- Cost analytics — total spend by category (fuel, service, rego), month-on-month deltas, and cost per kilometre rendered in HA charts.
- Live trip events over WebSocket — service-due alerts, trip starts and finishes pushed in real time. No polling, no lag.
- Custom Lovelace card — your vehicle data styled to match whatever HA theme you run.
Phase 2 (2027) adds a native HACS integration with config-flow setup, device registry support, and one-click automation templates. "When service is due, send a Telegram and add a calendar event" — ready to use, no YAML.
What it means for car enthusiasts
A reminder in your phone is easy to swipe away. A reminder that turns the office light orange, notifies your partner, and drops a calendar event your mechanic can see? That gets done. AutoBrain's service interval data is already tuned to Australian conditions and manufacturer schedules; the integration just delivers it to a place you'll actually act on.
The same goes for fuel and cost trends. A 1.2 L/100km jump in your weekly average is interesting on its own. The same number sitting next to your electricity bill and your driving distance is a conversation with your wallet — and it's where AutoBrain's analytics finally meet the rest of your life.
When you can try it
